A small community communication space. Also Coming Soon™.
We started this project after looking into local "Angel Tree" options and discovering that the one we were encouraged to join was run by the Salvation Army, which didn’t sit right with us. So we searched for free, open-source ways neighbors could share gifts without the strings attached.
We found a great community-friendly wishlist app and decided to host it ourselves—at home, on our own server, with no ads, no tracking, and no corporate middlemen.
Once the wishlist was running, we realized it could be the first step toward something bigger: tools for neighbors to connect, exchange items, organize help, and build a little more community in Munhall, Homestead, and West Homestead.
That’s why MunhallStuff includes a coming-soon tool & item exchange and a future community space called Pulse. Both of which rely on the wishlist gaining a little momentum—so if it helps a few yinzers get connected, we’ll keep building.
We want MunhallStuff to stay simple, neighborly, and private. Everything here is open-source, self-hosted, and built with care for the people who live around us.
And about the name: we picked "MunhallStuff" because our house is in Munhall—not because we don’t love Homestead or the community that brings it to life. This project belongs to everyone in Munhall, Homestead, and West Homestead equally.
We are J and Lou, a couple of disabled veterans living in Munhall with our two cats, Annabelle and Suki.
We learned how strong a community can be when people actually show up for one another. After getting out of the armed forces, we realized how much we missed that feeling of folks taking care of each other, the way yinz do when it really counts.
We love this corner of the valley, and we wanted to help build something that makes life a little easier, a little kinder, and a little more connected for the people who live around here. Nothing fancy, nothing corporate—just neighbors helping neighbors like it oughta be.
And honestly? The holidays bring out the best and the worst in people. So we figured there's no better time to start building something simple, local, and human-sized. A space where yinz can give, share, and support each other without judgement or hassle.
MunhallStuff is our way of taking a first step. If it grows, great. If it helps even a few folks feel seen, supported, or a little less stressed, that's already a big win in our book.
